lots of people ask similar questions. here are the answers to a few...
do you travel?
Yes, lots! I'm based in Grantham, Lincolnshire, in the East Midlands but cover Leicestershire, Rutland, Nottinghamshire, Derbyshire, Norfolk, Cambridgeshire (you get the gist). In fact, I cover all of the UK from Landsend to John O'Groats and am also happy to travel to your destination wedding (it goes without saying that anything too far away from base may incur travel expenses though).
what equipment do you use?
I shoot with Nikon professional digital SLR cameras, my current work horse is a Nikon D5 (for the enthusiasts). They're great! They're also especially good at working in lower level light without needing flash, so perfect for subtle photography during your ceremony or in other not so light and airy situations. All lenses and flash guns are also Nikon. Duplicate kit comes everywhere so in the unlikely event of equipment failure, your day will not be interrupted. Sometimes I also use reflectors, video lights and other small pieces of lighting equipment if necessary, though I try to keep this to an absolute minimum and always out of the way.
I also carry a bag of useful stuff like headache tablets, gaffer tape, lollipops, hair spray, a step ladder, mints and cartoon plasters... because you just never know.
what if the weather is awful?
I come prepared! British weather being what it is, I always make a plan B. That's one of the reasons I make sure I have a look around your venue before the big day. I carry extra lights, backgrounds and several umbrellas just in case of weather emergencies.
what deposit do you require?
I usually ask for a £300 deposit to secure your wedding date in the diary, with the balance being payable a fortnight before the day.
do we call you Sarah or Sarah Ellen?
Sarah is fine! I use my middle name as there seems to be quite a few photographers called Sarah Bailey. I guess I'm just trying to stand out!
do we need to feed you?
A meal is always appreciated if it's available but you're by no means obliged to offer us one. All I ask is that you let us know whether your venue is catering for us in advance so that we can come prepared if not.
can we see examples of complete weddings?
Yes, absolutely. I'm more than happy to show you a selection of complete weddings so you get an idea of the extent of the coverage provided. I don't have any on the website as a couple will usually receive between 600-1200 images depending on the format of their day. That's a bit of a huge gallery.
will you make us stand in a line for hours when all we really want to do is drink champagne?
No, certainly not. I like to capture images of happy people enjoying themselves rather than scowling at me because they're cold, thirsty or bored. If you'd like some group shots, we'll make a plan to capture some relaxed images with as little impact on the rest of the proceedings as humanly possible, leaving you plenty of time to catch up with your guests.
who is your second photographer?
Our second photographer is usually my other half Will (we actually met at a wedding, terribly romantic) who's a real creative sort with a 50mm lens. We're actually one of those annoying couples that work really well together, and he's also really happy carrying the heavy stuff, it's a winning combo. If Will isn't available I have a couple of trusty colleagues (that I have worked with for years and are professional photographers in their own right) that come to play.
are you insured?
Yes, of course I am! A copy of my public liability and indemnity insurance is available to view on request. I also have an enhanced CRB check and am trained in first aid, just so you know
do you photograph other things?
Kind of. I don't usually do family photography in the traditional sense, though I have worked with clients on newborn and family portraiture. I'm more the sort that will get you all playing in the garden as opposed to standing in front of a white background. The less staged the better. Please get in touch for further information.
I do have a commercial past and still retain a couple of clients from way back when. I guess they're used to me. No one likes change! I also have a few local clients. Though I don't market myself commercially anymore, I am happy to consider commissions on an individual basis.
You can get an idea of this and some of the stuff we also offer here.
